Vegan or Vegetarian-friendly in DC Area?

Driving in tonight and will be staying in Greenbelt/College Park area for a few days. Looking for a few good sitdown places for dinner that can work for a former vegan now vegetarian . Will have a car and Metro access so could go pretty much anywhere worth the trip.

In DC, Jaleo for Spanish tapas is one of the best meals in the area and the most vegetarian friendly. Almost all their vegetable dishes are dynamite, including grilled asparagus with romesco sauce, patatas bravas, spinach with raisins, beet and citrus salad, garlic mushrooms, eggplant and peppers, and baby wrinkled potatoes with cilantro sauce.

Not a lot in the immediate area. Woodland and Tiffin are reliable South Indian,
There is also a Thai place (Siri's Chef Secret) on Greenbelt Rd, not far from the Greenbelt Metro (don't try walking there though!)
A couple of vegetarian friendly places that are relatively new include Shagga Ethiopian restaurant in Hyattsville (on Route One just south of College Park) They have a nice vegetarian plate. Vegetables are usually fresh and tasty.
Busboys and Poets is now opened in Hyattsville with several vegetarian and vegan options. The place is almost too hip for words but I was not overly impressed with the food.
      Good Luck

If you want a bit of a splurge ($75 a person tasting menu), Elizabeth's Gone Raw is supposed to be really cool, and pretty much tailored toward you!

Woodlands and Tiffin, both in nearby Langley Park, offer Indian food. Woodlands is 100% vegetarian, Tiffin offers a several vegetarian dishes.

          Second Mandalay in Silver Spring.

And if you're going to drive north towards Great Sage, I'd skip that and go to Facci (7530 Montpelier Road Laurel, MD 20723). While I want to support vegetarian restaurants, my last few meals at Great Sage weren't worth the drive.

The only restaurant I know of in College Park is Ledo's Pizza. It's an institution and has a very different type of pizza - very flaky crust and square. People love it or hate it - you could google for reviews.

If you want to drive or Metro over to Silver Spring (an easy 20 min drive during non-rush hour), there are lots of ethnic restaurants that might be of interest. None are fancy, but the ones below all have table service. All of these have lots of vegetarian entrees on their menus.

            Ghar-E-Kabab - Indian and Nepalese
Mandalay - Burmese - sort of a cross between Chinese and Indian
Asian Bistro - standard Chinese plus sushi, have a large section of faux meat dishes
Kao Thai - try the coconut milk curries
Abol - Ethiopian, we like this one and I know they have a veggie sampler plate, but there are several other Ethiopian restaurants in the area

If you are willing to drive a little, (about half and hour)consider Great Sage in Clarksville, MD. Take 95 North to Rt. 32 West toward Columbia, then Clarksville Pike north. The restaurant is in a shopping center on the left a little ways up the road.

True vegan restaurant. All organic. No dairy or eggs. They use nuts instead of dairy.

I enjoyed the Adult Mac and "Cheese", the Hummus plate is quite good as an appetizer. I find however, that instead of trying their mock seafood, I went for the mushroom dishes instead.

I'm a carnivore, but I've been able to find satisfying meals there when we went.
