Where to find good "adult-style" mac and cheese?
Kuma's Corner lets you build your own:
"Make Your own Mac & Cheese

2900 W Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
Im trying to understand why you would grate cheddar on top
Of your mac n cheese gratin?
Well im a chef in the virgin islands and did a fun style
Tasting for a friend where mac n cheese came into play.
So its macaroni wrapped jumbo hot dog, panko breaded
Then deep fried then baked lol then I put heineken
Bbq sauce on the plate and cut it half and put on plate with
Pickled red onions, yes I know it sounds crazy but
Definetely an adult mac n cheese!
Well, I can't speak for the northwest side other than Deleece which has some pretty good mac and cheese, but not somewhere for which I would go out of my way.
In my humble (or not really so) opinion, the best mac and cheese in the world is at The Captial Grille. It offers a lobster mac 'n cheese that is one of the best things I eat way too much. Just had some two nights ago for dinner. It's so good that I often forego a steak and just have their spicy calamari (also top 5 in my book), a chopped salad and the lobster mac for my entree. And this is not the BS lobster mac that other places serve where you have to search for the lobster, The Cap Grille puts two full claws in each dish which means lots of lobster.
This is the description from the menu, I am salivating thinking about it:
Baked Campanelle pasta and fresh Lobster meat, tossed in a Mascarpone, Havarti and Grana Padano cream sauce, topped with Panko bread crumbs and grated white cheddar.
It's probably less caloric to eat a porterhouse, but . . . .
That lobster mac & cheese is a standard dish at all Capital Grilles, varying by a buck or two from location to location. I guess it's also done uniformly well across the chain, I imagine.
BTW it's only 1560 calories. :-)
