Map of Great Smoked Meat Sandwiches joints in Montreal

Trying something here so it can become a referral thread that tourist and Montrealers can see on the map on the right side of the threads. It's called "Place Mentioned" with a google map pointing to the places. Instructions to map a restaurant: Let's not have any discussions here and just name the place by clicking the tab that says "Manage Your Links" section below your post area. You can also use that mechanism to add a new restaurant to the Chowhound database.

My first and favorite smoked meat sandwich is Main.

Edited: , I was having issues with this discussion, I now see that maj5us did add schwartz, but when I first posted this, it, and the map, were not showing on my screen

I really like Quebec Smoked Meat especially since I can get their products at a butcher right across the street from where I live.

it's a very good sand wich considering it's microwaved. I was shocked but loved the tatse. Rumor is that main get their supply from them now. But i did notice a difference in taste maybe a special recipe just for them.

I'll try adding it for you. here's the instructions again from the moderator: Doesn't always work or slow to process. we'll see

use the "Manage Your Links" section below your post if the restaurant wasn't automatically linked. You can also use that mechanism to add a new restaurant to the database.

Even if ou don't see a new restaurant added to the database at first it does works. Jut a slow process to map and all until you see it.

Many years ago a bakery used to run an add that stated "its the bread that makes the sandwich".
Regardless of whether one prefers the Main, Schwartz's or Smoke Meat Pete.s (my personal favourite) there is no rye bread in Montreal that does justice to any Jewish Deli sandwich.
You cannot have a great smoked meat sandwich without decent rye bread and you cannot make decent Jewish rye by waving a small bit of rye flour over the dough. Great smoked meat yes great smoked meat sandwich I ve had better luck elsewhere.

How about Quebec City, Chicago (Roumanian Pastrami but smoked meat none the less), Sherbrooke, Burlington Vermont and a myriad of other places where one can find good rye bread and reasonable facsimiles of Montreal smoke meat. Actually I pick up smoke meat in Montreal and get some rye bread in Newport and I dare say I can make a better smoke meat sandwich than anywhere in Montreal. I have considered bringing my own rye bread to Schwartz or the main and have them make me sandwiches but my wife nixed the idea. One would think that a city that has just about the best bakeries in the world someone could produce something close to the quality of rye on which I was weaned.

The European Deli in Mansonville Quebec made the the best Smoke Meat Sandwich I have eaten recently but because they also know the importance of good bread they used their own homemade roll but what a great sandwich.

As we mentioned in the other thread of this type, to add a map link to a specific restaurant, please *don't* check the "This is a review of a specific restaurant" box if you're not actually reviewing the restaurant.

Instead, use the "Manage Your Links" section below your post if the restaurant wasn't automatically linked. You can also use that mechanism to add a new restaurant to the database.

I don't think the whole " Let's not have any discussions here and just name the place " is working.

It's a great Polish deli and grocery store in Cote-St.-Paul. Their Polish sausages, pickles, and smoked meat are excellent.

DELIBEE'S deserves to be on the MAP. A very good Smoked Meat Sandwich

please no discussion here in this thread. Go to the smoke meat thread or DELIBEE'S thread to talk about that restaurant.

well sad to see that the mapping of restaurants is removed.
If I have time I will create a google account with maps and create a thread with a link to it.
