Need a bakery recommendation in Old Town VA

I'm staying in Old Town near the Lorien Hotel and would like a suggestion for a bakery or sandwich shop where I can get some door for the train ride to NYC.

Thanks

I haven't been in a while, but I used to like Nickells and Scheffler at the corner of King and Henry Streets.

I got a sandwich at the Butcher Block right after it opened, a chicken sandwich, Was ok but small and very expensive. Have not gone back. There is a small coffee shop (name eludes me) across from your hotel and the corner of King and Harvard Street. They have nice sandwiches and decent baked goods. You are also not far from Whole Foods on Duke Street. If you don't mind walking there is Bittersweet Cafe on the corner of King and Alfred Streets and Pain Quotidien on the corner of King and Washington Streets, both have good sandwiches and baked goods. For a treat there is Alexandria Cupcake, on King Street between Patrick and Henry Streets. Your concierge can help you find all of these.

That looks great and I've never heard of it (it's going on my places to try out). Have you tried the tasting room? What do you recommend as the bakery/sandwiches go? Thanks.

I'd recommend any of the tarts and mussels at The Tasting Room.

agreed! This would be perfect considering your location. Also, consider Misha's for some baked goods.
