Brampton or Mississauga, where is the best old fashioned fries and gravy?

Hi, new here. I am remembering my old school days when we all used to go to some local places and have fries and gravy for lunch. I would do anything to experience that taste again. What I am looking for is a good plate of fries that are not too dark but cooked well, soggy on the inside and crisp outside. The gravy should not be transparent, it should be thick and light brown. I don't like the dark brown goopy stuff. Too concentrated and salty.

It just seems like nobody makes gravy like I had in the 1980's. There were 2 exceptional places where I had this fantastic gravy, both in Streetsville Ontario. One was Terry's Burger House, and the other was Wings Chinese Restaurant. The absolute best gravy in the world, and trust me when I tell you, I have had many, many plates from all over the place in my life.

Thanks for any suggestions!! -Michelle

I have no idea if it is good as I have not tried it, however there is a chip truck at the Canadian Tire at Southdown and Royal Windsor. It does say fresh cut fries on the side of the truck so that is a plus.

I'll go back to my "Mississauga Greasy Spoons" file but for now, try Queen's Fish and Chips in S-ville. Costco does fries+gravy and poutine--worth a visit if you're a member. Might also check Port Credit and Lakeshore running east. There are also a couple old school places scattered along Burhamthorpe around Cawthra in strip malls.

I will try Costco, I do go there but never eat there for some reason.

I grew up with Queens Fish and Chips, but can't say I have had that in at least 10 years. I remember the gravy back then, and it tasted the same as everyone else's. Maybe better now. The fish was the showstopper.

        THANKS!!!

You like the fries at Costco? I love me some fries, but I won't eat them there. They look and taste like frozen "coated" fries, if you know what I mean
It may be a ways out, but there is a "parked" fries truck on Trafalgar (near Steeles? I think). I think it's actually Milton, and it's beside a donut place, but can't remember if it's a Coffee Time or Tims. Fries seem to me to be fresh cut, but I can't vouch for the gravy.

Chip trucks are vanishing around Mississauga/Brampton/Milton as more and more property is "managed." There's little parking and most trucks aren't welcome.

I know that truck, passed it a million times, it looks like it is always closed. I will stop next time. Thanks!

It was open when I passed by at noon today. I turned left on Steeles from Trafalgar towards Milton, and darned if there wasn't another fry truck there!

I guess not interested in Sonny's in Brampton or The Fire Pit in Mississauga?

Sonny's, I have never tried, I did not know they had gravy. I heard they did not have lettuce! Good to know, will try soon for sure, and long overdue. So many Brampton people I know adore Sonny's.

Fire Pit I have tried, it is good for sure. I did not find the gravy memorable though. The line up was memorable. The gravy at FP was very much like a dry mix type from what I remember.

The gravy I want, is light brown without any transparency, and no warm tones in the brown colour. Very cool brown. Maybe even a bit lumpy, more popular years ago than now. I never see it now.

              How's that for anal.

Sonny's is KNOWN for their fries & gravy before anything else I am pretty sure. It's even maybe a little bit lumpy like you said. Don't know if it's light enough brown for you though...

I will have to see for myself, and report my findings. Thanks a lot!!

PS I should add, that one place that has really, really good gravy is Torbram Restaurant, near the airport. It's a very rich, meaty tasting gravy, and it clearly home made.

It's sort of haute greasy spoon and arguably best for breakfast. There just aren't many places that fit the diner/greasy spoon profile around Miss/Brampton.
