Need restaurant suggestion for downtown.. Soho, tribeca, Chelsea,, village..
Hello chowhounders,
I would love to get some suggestions for a restaurant downtown for date night with my husband! He always leaves the restaurant choice to me, but this week I am out of ideas and could use some help. We are generally adventurous eaters. I am more focused on food quality than whether the restaurant is a happening one or not. Some examples of places we like are Osteria Morini, Five Points, Txikito, Falai, Ushiwakamaru and Corton.
Where do you think we should go tonight?!
Thank you.

All good choices from Kathryn, above - though I'm not as big a fan of Aldea as some others. A lot depends on your definition of "Downtown" too - I'll just go with Gramercy & points South, for reference. Your list of past favorites covers a bit of ground, price-wise. Corton is up there with the highest $$$$ places. Up in that price neighborhood and a little lower, I also see openings tonight at:
Bouley
Brushstroke (Bouley's new Japanese place)
Del Posto
Morimoto
SHO Shaun Hergatt
Soto (the Temple of Uni - well-deserved on their second Michelin star)
Tocqueville
WD-50 (a big influence on Iacopo Falai, similar playfulness to Corton, and some of the best cockatils in the city if you're fan of the bartender's art)
Corton (if you feel like going back - menu's probably quite different than the last time you were there)
Devi or Tulsi (Haute Indian)
Falai (again, if you feel like going back - and if the rumors that he's thinking of selling his flagship are true, might not be many more chances to go there...)
Maialino
Marc Forgione (a personal favorite - neighborhoody vibe that's romantic on weeknights, top-notch food. Cocktails leave a bit to be desired as they're on the overly sweet side for my taste, but you can always go to Ward III for a pre/post dinner libation if you're so inclined.)
Cookshop (from the same team behind Five Points & Hundred Acres)Of the ones Kathryn listed, Public is my standout. I think Chef Farmerie's been on a roll of late there.
