Suggestions for coffee & alcohol alternative meetup for first/blind date on the East side?

jellobelt Aug 22, 2011 10:04 PM

Let's say I've got this friend who can't drink coffee or alcohol anymore due to deleterious physical effects though he may be able to drink both again in the future. Let's also say that this friend is on the dating circuit and trying to avoid the awkwardness of inviting someone to meet him at a bar and only ordering a soda water with a lime wedge. Does anybody have suggestions for a coffee shop/bar alternative that has ambiance suitable for a first/blind date? Like a tea house or something. Or perhaps a recommendation on a classy non-alcoholic cocktail? On the East side, preferably, and not necessarily a place to get a meal in case it doesn't go well.

And thanks!

Casbah Cafe just down the street from Intelligencia on corner of Sunset and Hyperion. Great mint tea, plus coffee and food/deserts. Pazzo Gelato is across the street too.

atmosphere is great to hang out and talk. Outside tables available too.

How about LA Mill on Silver Lake Blvd. where you could get an alcoholic beverage, a coffee drink or non-alcoholic beverages? They have some food, yet someone ordering a non-coffee or alcohol style beverage is not viewed as strange - it's the nature of doing business there.

The old fashioned soda fountain in South Pasadena on Fair Oaks and Mission. I don't know the name.

許留山 (Benser Tasty) in San Gabriel? Desserts / fruit drinks, also serves snacks / food if you end up being hungry.

every nice hotel has a coffee shop or a coffee-shop-alternative-in-the-hotel-lobby that will serve a cup of tea.
the lower-level hotels may close their coffee shops after breakfast, but the higher level hotels will serve continuously.

How about Pazzo Gelato? Besides their great gelato and sorbetto, they also have coffee and tea. Indoor and outdoor seating.
