Range Hood / Makeup Air

I am doing a remodel on my kitchen, and I am struggling trying to find a range hood for my Wolf Gas Range, but building codes in Minnesota will only allow a 300 CFM fan to be installed. Anything bigger would require me to put in a makeup air system. The appliance dealer did not know how much a makeup air system would cost, only that I need one. Does anyone know how much this would cost? Thanks for your input.

  1. CinDog: I would ask this question over in the appliance or kitchen forum at Gardenweb. I have always had very informative responses within minutes of posting.

    1. I assume you have a contractor doing this. Any legit contractor in Minnesota should know that cost for a job he is doing---it will depend on the particulars of your structure.

If you are trying to do this yourself, be careful. If you pulled a permit they are going to inspect and it needs to be done right. If you are doing without a permit (maybe not such a hot idea if the job is big) it can be dangerous. The reason Minn makes a big deal of it is that houses there tend to be tight, so without an explicit route for make-up air it may be drawn in through your other gas appliances' exhausts, which can be very dangerous for you and your family.
