Visting Toronto//Looking for Recommendations

garlin Aug 22, 2011 01:27 PM

Family of three--includes a 5 year old will be visiting in a few weeks. Staying in Cabbagetown. Looking for recommendations in Chinatown, particularly noodlehouses and dim sum.

Also looking for suggestions on Italian that is authentic, good, and child friendly.

Any recommendations in Cabbagetown are appreciated as well.

Thank you,

Cheap and cheerful dim sum - Rol San on Spadina – no carts but that’s my pref. If you want something a little nicer there is Crown Princess on Bay street. I'm not a noodle person so I will leave that for others to comment on.

Mercatto is more what I would call fast-food style or very casual Italian but the food and service is always good. There are three locations in the city but the College Street location would be the one you could walk to from Cabbagetown.

If you want something a little less casual I would suggest Enoteca Sociale. More of a nona's type touch to this place and I think they would be pretty kid friendly especially if you dine early.

as an aside, on Tuesday afternoons, you should take your kids to the farmer's market and then to Riverdale Farm. They may love it (assuming they are 13 and under)

How old was the friend's daughter?
I love Guu but never have seen children there. I know my children would absolutely love it but I was hesitant to bring them if it's seen more as a "bar" than a restaurant.
If there were lunch hours I would absolutely have already brought them -- do you think it would be fine if i brought them right when it opens for dinner?

we went at 5 30 and sat at the patio outside. My friends daughter is a little over 2 years old.... she was perfectly happy in the lil corner that was given to us outside and the staff was very accomodating
