Clove Indian Cuisine in East Rutherford - food delivery report
We had food delivered from Clove on Saturday night (minimum order for delivery $35). It was OK but no hell:
- meat samosas were tasty enough although the keema was very mildly seasoned) and not greasy
- poori and naan both fine
- chilli chicken seemed like an Indian Chinese dish (variation on General Tso's), husband liked it
- seekh kebab - expected lamb, this seemed more like ground chicken, nicely spiced but quite dry
- lamb vindaloo - terrible, the sauce tasted like butter chicken sauce (which always reminds me of canned tomato soup) with some extra chili pepper chucked in, and the lamb was tough
- patiala pullao - very good, with browned onions, cashews, peas
- raita unexceptionable
The above (which came with enough plain rice for two small servings) arrived within 45 minutes, was hot, and cost $73.
Is there a better place that delivers to Rutherford?

Had the lunch buffet there today (sit-down). Everything was hot and fresh and there were a few dishes that are a bit out of the ordinary (poha - yum - and tofu in spicy sauce, rather Indo-Chinese). Quite worth it, really. $11.95 on the weekends. BYOB.

I agree about Kamal Palace. Excellent alternative for delivery. The food is flavorful, and I'm glad that there are Indian food restaurants in the area now.
However, I do have a love/hate thing going on with Clove. I enjoy their lunch buffets (especially on the weekends, when the offerings are a little more adventurous).
A few months ago, I was in the area, and wanted take out, but my husband didn''t. I had never done 'take out' from a buffet before. I took one styrophone container and put my curry, vindaloo, etc in it, then took another one to place the pakora and salad, because I didn't want them to 'mix'. Well, I was promptly charged for 2 lunches. When I explained that I just didn't want my salad and pakora to get all soupy, the woman looked at me and coldly said, "no, that's two lunches....you are welcome to eat it here, but if you take it out, I will charge you" My answer was - "so, if I dump this all into one container, you'll only charge me once?" "Yes". So I proceeded to dump all my food into one container. I still used up two containers...but she wanted to make a point. I told her I had never 'taken out' from a buffet before, and wasn't familiar with the drill. I was pretty perplexed by her hostile attitude, and didn't appreciate it at all.
I didn't go back for a long time.›1 Reply-

Interesting about the buffets. Interesting conception of lunch measures...
Incidentally my husband answered the door and it was a woman who delivered the food. He said she seemed uncommonly peeved and put-upon about something (perhaps having been sent out on the delivery run). Same person, I imagine?

Wow, that didn't sound very tempting at all.
I would suggest calling Kamal Palace in North Arlington. They are at the very beginning of NA on the Lyndhurst border. They do delivery and their food is very good. We have had it a few times now and have always been very pleased. I would try calling them and for a large order of $73 I bet they would deliver to Rutherford as it is not that far.
