Best place to eat before the Timbers game on Wednesday?

primitivecinema Aug 21, 2011 07:29 PM

Coming up from Eugene for my first Timbers home game this Wednesday night. Looking for a good easy place to eat within range of the field. I come up to eat fairly often in PDX (just ate at Biwa and Tasy n Sons this weekend) but not usually with this kind of time and location restraints. Recs for a great burger and a beer, good pod of carts, etc. would be much appreciated.

Go Timbers!

Here's a good one stop shopping for it all: Hit the Mississippi Marketplace (4237 N Mississippi Ave. Portland, OR 97217), grab a fantastic burger (far better than anything you can get in Eugene) from Garden State (get it with the pancetta, trust me), then grab a beer from adjoining Prost! and soak up the sun on the deck. It's a great way to spend an afternoon.
After the soccer match, you could grab a tasty taco from the BBQ taco truck, Koi Fusion (usually right around 19th and Burnside, I recall -- check their site). Or if you want to have outstanding Peruvian tapas, check out Andina in the Pearl District. About a 1/2 mile from the stadium, so easily walkable (10-15 min.) on a nice night. Have fun

Hmm, Mississppi isn't "within range" of the field, except Andina, but you;d have to go very early to get to the game in time and I don't like your chances of getting a booking this late. Koi usually does have a truck outside the game, but it will be slammed before and after and their food is usually pretty mediocre when that happens.

Clyde Common is close, but only has the burger on their HH menu, which ends at 6, although I've seen plenty of people order and get served it during normal dinner hours.

Gruner only has its burger in the bar, which only has a few seats, but your chances of a short wait are very good on a Wednesday. It's one of the best bistro burgers in town.

Less fancy but very good is Little Big Burger in the Pearl.

Thanks, hoping to hit town about 5:30 so all those burger options sound good. Been wanting to try LBB too.
