Itinerary for a Single Diner - suggestions?

ClevelandRandy Aug 21, 2011 08:31 AM

After much thought (based on this board, and geographical considerations), this is my planned itinerary. I will be dining alone for all of these meals. Any thoughts on places where it is best to sit at the bar, as opposed to at a table (or any other thoughts)? Staying at Hilton Garden Convention Center. Also wondered about safety of walk up Andrew Higgins to/from St. Charles streetcar (@ Lee Circle) (realize that's slightly off-post - please forgive). Any suggestions for pre-dinner drinks? Thanks!

I think that is a decent list. The one exception might be Atchafalaya. I like the place a lot but it is out of the way for where you are staying and, to my mind, not the best for a single. Not that you couldn't or they wouldn't.

I just think places with a food bar Like Mr. B's, Emeril's , NOLA, etc are more fun for a single.

If you want Atchafalaya I'd do the Sunday Brunch there before Elizabeth's

    Emeril's Restaurant
800 Tchoupitoulas, New Orleans, LA 70130

Luke and Domenica are great places to dine at the bar. Go to the corner of Lafayette and S Peters to Ernst Cafe which is over 100 years old for good happy hour. They have outdoor tables. Ernst's has 2 # crawfish plates for $5.00 on Friday's. When you leave Ernst's go W a block to Girod and go N 2 blocks to Lucy's Bar on Tchoupitoulas for a good 4 to 7 happy hour and $2.50 beer. Grand Isle is a fine seafood restaurant and raw bar a block S of Ernst's on Fulton.

      Lucy's Bar @ 701 Tchoupitoulas St., New Orleans, LA 504 - 523 - 8995.

      Ernst Cafe @ 600 South Peters Street, New Orleans, LA 504 - 525 - 8544.

      Grand Isle @ 575 Convention Center Blvd., New Orleans, LA 504 - 520 - 8530.

I dine alone at lunch often, and I think the most fun, enjoyable experience I had was last year at Emeril's setting at the kitchen bar.

I don't think you'll have a problem on Andrew Higgins, assuming you don't mean at 3 in the morning.

Do you need a reservation to sit at the kitchen bar at Emerils for a single diner on a weekday in April?
