I love Elf, which is not fancy, but cozy and intimate. I've taken my vegan friend there three times and he loves it. So do I, though I go mostly for the vegetarian items. My favorites so far are the stuffed portobello mushroom entrée, and the chickpea flour crepe with spinach and cheese. Again, my very picky vegan friend loves it! And the people who work there are very nice; all in all, a great atmosphere.

Fatty's in Eagle Rock is not too far east, and it is in the process of reopening, with Charlie Puffer, former manager at Topline in Glendale, as proprietor, and the place must remain vegetarian, and mostly vegan.
doing pop-up dining this coming weekend on friday, saturday and sunday.
I'm not sure that the elegance factor is the operative term at Fatty's, however. but the wine list will be good !!!

Not much along the lines of what you're describing in Silver Lake or close by areas. If you can travel a bit further out, you could go to Providence (budget permitting), or Ammo (both Hollywood-ish), or Bashan or Palate in Glendale. None of these are vegan, but all can accommodate a vegan diner, assuming your guest is Ok with the food not being prepared in an all-vegetarian kitchen.
