Redmond / Kirkland dining

Hi,

My wife and I are in the area for the Susan G Komen 3 Day walking event which is centered around Redmond. Any suggestions for good places to eat dinner? We have eclectic tastes. I eat veggies and dairy, she loves Italian.
Many thanks, in advance.

    Juanita Bay Cafe! The best.

Cafe Juanita for high end Italian--one of the best restaurants in the Pacific Northwest. Trellis in the Heathman Hotel is nice--chef grows much of his own produce.

Pomegranate Bistro. The menu is very eclectic (from duck l'orange to home made grilled cheese and tomato soup). They are open for brunch on the weekends too. Lisa Dupar makes all her own sausage patties etc., and she's not shy with flavor. It's in an odd location, but the interior is much more interesting that what you see from the street.

Tropea. It's in a strip mall, but the Italian food is terrific and the pastas (veggie) is as good as it comes.

Frankie's Pizza and Pasta in Redmond is also quite good, but of a very different calibre from Tropea (also in Redmond).

Do you like Indian? Mehfil in Redmond is really really good.

Tosoni would be very nice. Try their Mezzo Mezzo dish. Depending on the half inebriated pheasant-feather-wearing Austrian chef's mood, it will be dish with a combination of either pheasant, ostrich, venison, or filet mignon. Not sure why this place isn't mentioned more around here.

Cafe Juanita and Trellis are both very nice as well.

                  Izumi is excellent for Japanese.

For Indian, do Spice Route or Mayuri. In Kirkland, a lot of people seem to like Shamiana (not me personally)

I find Tosoni to be stuck in the 70"s. At the prices they charge, I expect more than each dish having the same 2 sides. Service is sporadic depending on whether or not you are recognized and the last time we were there the chef was so busy talking to friends that he stopped cooking. It is certainly not on the level of Cafe Juanita or even Trellis.

We've always enjoyed Tosoni's. Consider it to be a bit of a blue-haired, old school Bellevue establishment, but definitely a local gem.

The (happy drunk) chef is as much a part of the landscape as the orated menu.

We are sporadic visitors, so we definitely are not recognized, but have always had attentive service from the wait staff. The food has also been predictably well prepared. Nothing earth shattering, but consistently well executed. And their tiramisu is beyond excellent.

But no, from location on, it's not on the level of Cafe Juanita or Trellis.
