Rt. 58 and Rt. 11 in Virginia

Would appreciate recommendations for Mom&Pop/Family run-type restaurants along Rts. 58 in southside Virginia and Rt. 11 through the Shenandoah in the western part of the state. Local food, meat-n-three, BBQ, homemade pies, etc. Thanks.

  1. The Ellis Soda Shoppe in Abingdon, VA is a drugstore (complete with soda fountain) and you can get a good lunch there (

Wild Flour Bakery and Cafe is also in Abingdon. I've gone in a few times on trips through, and have had some really good things and some pretty average items. I'd recommend their baked goods over their meals. Breakfast may also be a good bet there (

FFS, thanks for the leads. The bakery looks really good.

    2. Cam't get anymore Mom and Pop than Chick-n- Little in Abingdon. Classic Southern diner with chicken fried fresh when you order it.

Also like The House on Main in Abingdon.

Also Allison's in Abingdon- try the ribs and baked potato soup.

Chick-n-Little is pretty much the sort I was looking for.....looks like Abingdon is a good place to spend a couple of days. Anyone have anything for Danville, Galax, Lexington, Winchester, Staunton, or even Front Royal? Thanks again.

          Galax- The Galax Smokehouse

I know there are threads on here about the other locations you have mentioned. If you so a search, I am sure you will find them.

Yeah, been there, done that. Just looking for updates....

      2. Jess' Quick Lunch at the original location on the square in downtown Harrisonburg. Sit at the counter. Great dogs, burgers, & fries. Atmosphere like a 50's diner. Awesome.

If you go to Abbington, make sure you go to a play at the Barter Theatre.
