Phoenix for one dinner and one lunch
We are going to be in Phoenix for the first time for a day, staying at the Marriott Desert Ridge. We are looking for one fabulous Mexican or Southwestern dinner. What do you suggest? We are willing to travel.

A handful of great places are on summer break now through the first or second week of September, so if you give us your travel dates, we can avoid steering you in the wrong direction.

Some Sunday dinner options, In order of shorter to greater travel times from Desert Ridge:
La Hacienda (haute/modern Mexican--no personal experience, but have seen positive reports. caution: can be very pricey).
Rokerij/Richardson's (Southwestern with New Mexico influences).
Gallo Blanco (modern Mexican--one of the best dining bargains in town).-----

re: veggielover
Oops. I meant to include Barrio Cafe, even though it has been rather hit and miss on my most recent visits.
And double oops--for some reason I had it in my mind that Los Sombreros was not open on Sundays, but they are actually open from 4 to 9 then. I've generally had good experiences with the food there and would actually rank it ahead of Barrio Cafe on that score.
Thanks for assist on the assist!

re: hohokam
I would recommend Richardsons for brunch/lunch in a heartbeat. Jalapeño eggs Benedict, Carne adovada, green chile potatoes, giant breakfast burrito...you can't go wrong. They refer to their style of cuisine as New Mexican. I've never been for dinner because I just love the eggs bene. Anyway, I don't live in Phx anymore but it's always a must for me when I visit.
