Weekday lunch spots

So I am taking having a sort of 'staycation' next week and thought it would be a good time to try some of the lunch spots only open on weekdays I can never get to b/c I work in McLean. These are the places I wanted to try but need to narrow it down to one or two. Not sure how they've been lately... help, please! And let me know if there's any I'm missing...

Greek Deli
Breadline
Tacqueria Nacionale
CF Folks
Restaurant Eve's Lickity Split Lunch

Thanks all!
Jodi

  1. Not Breadline -- huge downhill alert. CFFolks is something everyone should do at some point -- and a great neighborhood spot -- but not a destination place. Nor is TN, or GD for that matter, although it, too, is worth visiting if you've never been (virtually no seating).

    1. Number one is Lickity Split Lunch. No question.
Number two: I would go with Breadline, myself. I've tried all the others you've listed, and Breadline is the one that has me going back.

        Thanks! I'm leaning towards Eve....

I couldn't think if any others that only do weekdays!

Pete's A Pizza has an awesome lunch deal - and you can run some errands at Target while you're there! I think it's weekdays only.
Proof also has a weekday special - entree and a glass of wine at the bar, for $13 I think.

          1. re: hamster

I was going to mention Proof, too, since the wine is a nice treat. I believe Bibiana has a similar deal this summer, and 701 has one too.

I'm with Hamster: go to the lunch at Eve before doing anything else. I also love Breadline, but if I were you, I would go on Fri. when they have their pulled pork special -ask for it on ciabatta. This is the best sandwich in town, in my opinon. (Well, it's rivaled by the brisket at The Standard, but that isn't open for lunch on weekdays!)

The Greek Deli has nowhere to sit.

        3. Rays Hellburger is my favorite lunch spot and next time I get a weekday off that's where I'm heading.

I like Zola Wine and Kitchen, which is only open for lunch.

Check CF Folks' Web site to see if the daily specials interest you before heading there -- but be warned, they can sell out of some specials by 1 pm or even earlier some days.

          Enjoy.

          1. I guess I wouldn't call Greek Deli a 'destination' as Marty puts it, but dang it's good.

            1. I personally really like CF Folks. It's just a fun environment and their daily specials are very good.

I haven't been to Restaurant Eve's Lickity Split yet but that would be on my list because it's such a good deal at such a great restaurant.

How about some food trucks? Some of my current favorites is The Ficelle, The Yellow Vendor (delicious Korean food), and DC Empanadas.

              1. Bayou Bistro in Arlington for southern food--they are open evenings but the bulk of their menu is available only at lunch time.

In addition to Lickety Split, there's the Royal Pick at their sister restaurant The Majestic.

I know people hate recs if posters haven't been there but one place that's been on my list of places to eat is this gourmet sandwich place out of a gas station:

And, if you can't get into Ray's, there's Cafe Assorti across the street for Russian baked goods, among other things.

                1. re: chowser

The gas station place is open at all hours, so doesn't necessarily have to be a weekday lunch.

Pete's Apizza in Columbia Heights has a lunch special that I think is weekdays only. Yum.

That new Wicked Waffle place is only open till 4 on weekdays.

                2. Greek Deli offers large quantities of bland oily food. If TN still offers horchata, then get it. It's the only one in the area not made made from powder, and it is fantastic. The tacos are pretty dry.

cf folks is a great experience if you sit at the counter and order from the chalkboard. I haven't been in ages now.

Lunch at Eve is great. Reserve if they let you.

You really want to hit up Deli City in Northeast DC for a combination pastrami-corned beef sandwich.

Once a month Sushi Taro does a ramen special at lunch only, announced the day before. Check out their twitter feed for any updates.
