Best restaurants in Santiago and Valparaiso, Chile?
My fiancee and I will be Chile in November and were wondering what readers here recommend in Santiago and Valparaiso?
Money isn't too much of an issue but quality is. Nice ambiance wouldn't hurt either.
Some restaurants I have shortlisted in Santiago are:
Aqui Esta Coco
Baco Vino y Bistro,
and in Valpo:
Would also love a great Peruvian that isn't part of a chain.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!
It may be too late for you but . . . . I had dinner at Aqui Esta Coco in Santiago three nights ago. Loved the atmosphere. Thought the food was very good, but not great. Excellent service.
Had dinner last night at La Concepcion in Valparaiso and was thrilled. Great house special pisco sour; excellent home-made warm breads in the bread basket; terrific abalone with cilantro and aioli sauce for an appetizer; and one of the best-cooked pieces of fish I've ever had for a main, a Chilean deep sea grouper with blueberry sauce accompanied by a lovely risotto. Dinner wasn't cheap. At least, not with a cocktail and two glasses of wine. Maybe that's why the waiter insisted on bringing me, gratis, a lovely Chilean dessert wine. Gorgeous views of the harbor, to boot. All in all a great meal and a lovely evening.
Having dinner tonight at Altzaga, which isn't on your list for Valparaiso but has lots of very positive reviews online. Will report back.
Altzaga is currently the number one ranked restaurant in Valparaiso on Trip Advisor and I just returned from one of the more horrendous dining experiences of my life. I won't go into the details because it's too depressing, but from the inept service to the only barely edible food it was a disaster from beginning to end. Avoid at all costs.
