Where to take an 18yo girl from out of town

(not a date)
My niece visits once a year and im short on ideas. Shes done the sushi samba and pastis thing, I'm thinking more LES or Evill. Less sex in the city. Food type not important, no budget ... Just atmsphere and scene.
Thanks

  1. When is this meal? I assume it's dinner? For "sceney" on the Lower East Side-ish, Pulino's, maybe? Public? Stanton Social?

I like the Pulino's idea. Maybe there, then to DBGB for dessert.

Public or Stanton social is perfect, thanks. Who the hell suggested going to elmhurst? Really?

        1. re: jimnorton

(Elmhurst!? I thought that was funny too!) If she is more hipster, I recommend The Dutch. Cool, eclectic crowd. Lively scene.

      2. i would stick to the sushi samba (multiple locations) and pastis thing or try uncle zhou in elmhurst

        1. re: AubWah

AubWah, the OP requested new places to go, so why suggest going back to the same ones (w/ the addition of Chinese place in Queens which fits none of the OP's criteria)...?...

          1. re: Simon

"atmosphere and scene" by my interpretation are abundant at UZ.

            1. re: AubWah

Where "scene" = trendy, beautiful young people (or people who think they are trendy and beautiful and young)?

        2. What about Rubirosa?

Asia de Cuba seems right. Also, Stanton Social for LES.

I'm assuming the OP's niece is visiting in the next few weeks. If she's visiting in the fall, the OP should be aware that Asia de Cuba is closing in October.

          2. Most of the above suggestions are good - Public, Stanton Social, Pulino's (though Pulino's strikes me as more touristy than sceney)

Also: Beauty & Essex, WD-50, Balthazar (also touristy, but also NYC-sceney), Momofuku Ssam Bar (or Noodle Bar)

Venturing further West... Morimoto could be fun (skip the sushi though, stick to the composed dishes), Babbo if you can get an elusive reservation.

Asia de Cuba is more of a "midtown" scene, I wouldn't take an 18-year-old there. Beter to stick to below 14th St, IMHO.
