Nathan's Hot Dogs

Went to Nat Bailey Stadium today and had a Nathan's hot dog. Loved it. Nice and garlicky.

Does anybody know where to get the franks retail?

  1. not sure if its the same dog but i saw the guy from Big Lous on tv and he said that they custom make an extra long dog for the Nat

    1. Are they the original Nathan's dogs with the natural casing?

      1. I seem to remember Phat Deli having them, but it's been a long time since I've been back and assuming they don't sell them for cooking at home.

It seems that Bon Ton in Calgary has them, if you're ever out that way: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/448420

          Thanks clutterer.

Phat Deli does still have them according to the menu.

Good to know for when i'm in the hot dog frame of mind again.

        2. Try Omnitsky's Kosher Deli on Cambie Street. They carry Nathan's Famous Mustard which, by the way, it the BEST mustard you can buy....especially for dogs...

Good idea! I'll make the hot dogs. We need proper natural casing dogs for a mustard taste off.

I am completely in awe that you know how to make hotdogs...and where did you get the Gulden's? The US?

                  1. re: Quattrociocchi

I always buy some when I go across the border.

I called them and they don't have Nathans but now do one themselves called "Brooklyn Doders" which they say is like Hebrew Nationals.

I'll give them a try, Thanks

                How were the Brooklyn Doders?

I have never been a fan of Omnitsky products so would be happy to hear if they've finally got something right.

I thought they were good, not great - nice beef flavour but not all that juicy. Be wary of buying buns at Omnitsky's - they were very stale and certainly distracted from my enjoyment of the dog. Six dogs were $9.23 so I'm not sure I can justify buying them again, especially since I'd have to go somewhere else to buy buns....

Gotta tell you....I still really like the Costco dogs....maybe it's the ambience...

Yah the bread / bagels / challah at omnitzky is always stale. Not sure why, but it blows.

            3. Jackson's Meats carried them last year. Maybe give them a call?

Just wanted to mention that I picked up some Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard at Omnitsky''s Deli this morning, along with a pack of Brooklyn Dog-ers.....I'm dying to see if it's as good as Tdeane says...

First time I've ever seen it in Canada...and if you're there, pick up some Nathan's Coney Island Mustard..it's da bomb.

I should say, there are definitely better mustards out there than Gulden's. I just think it's the best mustard for a NY style hot dog. Sauerkraut and Guldens or NY style onion relish(my favourite) and Guldens. Delicious!!
