Advice on SF food adventure
Critique on SF food adventure
Hi all,
My boyfriend and I (both in our mid-20s) are from HK and going on a Cali road trip in early October, staying in SF for 2 full days then off to the pacific coast highway to LA. We both love our food so we need advice on where to eat!
Sat
Bfast/Lunch: Ferry Farmer’s Market
Dinner: Thinking of going to a fancy-ish place. Saison /Commis – worth the trip to Oakland if we’re only in town for 2 days?/ Ame / Baker &Banker/Benu? Any other suggestions? Should we save our nice dinner for places like Aubergine or somewhere in LA instead? We’ll also be heading to NYC afterwards so a blow out meal in Cali is not essential.
Sun
Brunch: Zuni / Foreign Cinema / Canteen?
Dinner: Want something a bit more relaxing and fun with good drinks. Nopa/Bar Agricole/Commonwealth/Delfina?
We enjoy eating just about everything so we’re totally open to all suggestions! Please help us! Thanks!

Don't save your nice meal for LA. Go to LA for Chinese, Japanese, even Thai food. While you're here go to Ame or Benu, or save your blowout meal for NYC. On Sunday, Zuni might be a more fun overall SF experience, though Canteen is delicious and more off the beaten path. I wouldn't do Foreign Cinema on a 2 day trip. Any of your dinner suggestions will be fantastic, but skip Nopa if you end up going to Zuni. It's very similar.

re: Pei
I'd disagree, I think that Foreign Cinema for brunch is a great place to go for a two day trip to SF; especially if you sit out on the patio and linger for a while, it's a very San Francisco atmosphere, a lot of fun, and good and entertaining crowd. Canteen is delicious, but not as atmospheric as FC, and Zuni seems too old for this couple.

Sounds like a fun trip! I think Benu would be an awesome choice for Sat Dinner. I also think Bar Agricole is exactly what you would be looking for Sunday. Great cocktails in a awesome space with excellent food, and if it's nice out they have a patio. Have fun!
