Good bar food near or enroute to Kennedy Center

Headed to the Kennedy center on saturday and we are looking for a place to eat great bar food. We will be metroing from falls church so it can be along the way close to a metro stop or around foggy bottom. We generally don't like to sit down for stuffy dinners and prefer to graze from the bar. Our tastes run the gambit (went to Graffiato and hooters last weekend) so we are open to anything with good eats available at the bar.

  1. A new Circa just opened across the street from the Foggy Bottom metro. It has a great outdoor bar/patio area and pretty standard bar food. I've been a couple times to sit at the bar and the service has been great. Other options in the are are Ris (fancier, good bar area) and Bayou (more casual, Southern food). Bobby's Burger Palace also just opened on 21st and K. I haven't been to this one, but I've been to one in Philly. Great burgers and beer and wine.

I second the recommendation for RIS. Higher end, but it has an excellent happy hour. I love sitting at that bar. It's within walking distance (or a short cab ride) to the KC.

    2. Another possibility might be Tonic, which is also close to the Foggy Bottom metro -- tater tots! -- might be the kind of place you're thinking about.

(I've also had a good experience at the bar at Ris.)

Assume you know about the free shuttle from Foggy Bottom to the Kennedy Center?

      1. I love to dine at the bar at Ris....not that far from the Kennedy Center. They do classic American dishes with a stylized spin. Their mussels with chorizo are very good. Also make sure to get a cocktail---last time I was there they had a peach sangria with fresh peach puree....so good.

Tonic is also pretty good. I haven't been in awhile but I remember the last time I was there having great mac and cheese. They also have tater tots!! More casual and that location is likely filled with students.

        1. re RIS: if it's ever legalized I'm going to marry their charcuterie. My family will just have to learn to understand our love.

          1. Thanks for the great recco's. Think we're gonna give Ris a try. Anyone think the bar area may be too crowded due to restaurant week? We'll probably get there around 5:30 or so.

I'd doubt it, that part of town at that time is more crowded weeknights (esp. Friday) ehh give 'em a ring tomorrow (Friday) and ask what their take is - no skin off your nose to just ask. my experiences with front desks is they're usually pretty upfront about that.

You should be ok at 5:30pm. Maybe call ahead to double check. They have little tables in the bar area and maybe if you say you are on your way they will reserve it for you.

They also have a pre-theater menu which you can get in the bar fyi.
