Annapolis good eats !
In a few weeks we will be spending two days in Annapolis. Seeking good, non touristy seafood places and other down to earth good eats. Have heard of the Annapolis Seafood Market, Cantler's and Galway Bay. Also downtown deli,Chick & Ruth's ??? getting some national play. Is it any good? Also, any place of note a short drive from Annapolis.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
1. Cantler's: on creek off Chesapeake, true Maryland seafood joust for steamed hardshell crabs, steamer clams etc.
2. Lewnes: locally owned steak and seafood restaurant
3. Chick and Ruths: deli
4. Tsunami Restaurant: sushi
5. 20 min car ride on route 50 east over the Bay Bridge to Kent Island. the Narrows- great crab bisque and crab cakes, Harris crab House and The Crab Deck for waterfront Maryland seafood and steamed crabs.
Just went to Cantler's the first time a few weeks ago. It was the best of 6 crab houses on the trip.
Do the back porch.
I had lunch at Jalapenos this week and again thought that this is really one of the few true gems in the area. I had enchiladas with chorizo and a green salsa that was very good. Wife had the cuban sandwich, also very good. We've been for dinner with friends several times recently and have extensively toured their tapas menu without any disappointments. It's not regional or specifically seafood, but it's definitely non touristy.
I've never had a bad meal at Chick and Ruths, but never anything to rave about either. It's definitely a local color kind of place that's a pleasant throw back to independent diner/delis.
I don't think I've ever been to Galway, but Castle Bay on Main street has always impressed me with well executed pub fare in a pretty authentic setting. It's been at least a couple years since I've been there, but the fish and chips were always solid, and the reubens were outstanding when I frequented the place fairly regularly.
