I noticed this weekend that Helios o 6th no longer around and has been replaced by Pur-something. What happened to Helios and what is the new place like?

A friend who lives nearby says the new place is run by a partner of the people who ran Helios, and whose idea is "to one thing and do it well". The thing is chicken (local, organic, etc) --thus, the name, Purbird. I picked up a menu yesterday--as I recall there are half and whole grilled chix, a chick burger, chicken sausage, a chicken wrap, chicken salads, and maybe one or two things I forgot. Lots of different choices of sauce. It's teeny and mostly probably does takeout and delivery. My friend, who is a foodie, says it's very good.

Your friend, the foodie, is right.

My wife and I ordered a delivery from Purbird earlier tonight for the first time. We got the whole grilled chicken and the house salad, along with one of the free sauces that accompany the whole chicken. We didn't actually eat the sauce, but we didn't need it. That chicken was among the best grilled chicken I've ever had. And I have to tell you, I've had a LOT of chicken in my time on this earth, which spans more decades than I like thinking about.

We also really liked the salad, which is saying something, since my wife Maureen generally ignores salads, but she actually asked for seconds tonight.

The bird itself is deboned completely except for the little bones at the end of the wings. It was grilled to perfection, if there is such a thing. Skin was crispy, edges were a little burnt and REALLY tasty , and all the meat, white and dark, was tender, moist and just plain terrific, all with a wonderful grilled chicken flavor. Only really minor cavil is that the prices are just a tad high, but given what you get, maybe they're not...

Oh yeah, they threw in a few pieces of sliced grilled pita bread, which were also delicious. This is one place that knows how to grill.

Please do consider this a rave review. This place deserves to be noticed and frequented.

Do yourself a favor and either drop in or order a delivery. See for yourself. It's the CH way.
