Gift of Food Delivered in Vancouver?

  • 5

I will be staying with friends in Vancouver this weekend and I'm looking to send them a food type of thank you gift. Something more interesting than a fruit basket - not a gift card to a restaurant, I prefer something be delivered. Any ideas are welcome - I'm not at all familiar with what's available in Vancouver. Thanks in advance!

    1. Sustainable Produce Urban Delivery may be worth a look as well... http://www.spud.ca/catalogue/catalogu...

I'm one of the last people on Earth who would slag SPUD, but the service is more for someone living in the area to get regular grocery deliveries. Unless the OP wanted to slide a little on the gift card idea and get them a free start to the service, I'm thinking something more akin to Mad About Food as mentioned below makes more sense.

Another cool option would be Gort's. You can build a cool little BC cheese basket and have it sent to them. Their extra aged Gouda is pretty incredible. Also, they're cool people. In general, if you look around some of the BC manufacturers, quite a number of them will do direct to customer shipping and some of them do some good gift-y presentations. If they're into hot sauce at all, check out Denzel's. His little wooden box with six bottles of sauce is pretty stylin' and tasty.

      2. Mad About Food does a variety of baskets that can be ordered on line or by phone. They also do custom if you want something other than on the web site.

        1. Three local gourmet stores that do gift baskets are:

          Edible BC
          Gourmet Warehouse
          Meinhardt's Fine Foods

Have had positive experiences with all three for tasteful quality baskets (a horrible experience in Kelowna of a hostess gift ordered online taught me that tasteful is a subjective word)

Meinhardt's has slightly less value for the money than the other two but does have slight snob appeal if that is something that matters.
