The Ivy in W. Hollywood?????

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out somethings about the Ivy. I've read some mixed reviews, so I'd like to know if this would be a good place for a first night in that area of LA. Also, is the menu the same for lunch as for dinner? Does anyone have a link for that restaurant, which includes their menu?

Thanks

  1. I haven't been there in years. It's a pretty patio most people there who aren't celebrities are tourists who are there trying to spot some. The food is pretty good but the prices are ridiculous. Practically insulting, in fact. Here's a link to a sample lunch menu:

      Thanks Bob, it's very helpful.

The Ivy has consistent food and service. The cocktails are good. It is EXPENSIVE for what it is.

The chopped grilled veggie salad is served to something like 85% of all the tables, and yes it is good.

For half the price (ok maybe more than half the price) you can have dinner at Fresh Corn Grill in Weho on SM Blvd and have THE SAME SALAD.

Fresh Corn Grill was started by two former employees of the Ivy and the food is great. Two locations Westwood on Westwood Blvd is TINY and has weird hours.

The second and newest location in Weho has a great patio.

Gee, I don't know how you would think a $32 dollar Soft-Shell Crab sandwich would be insulting. (What are these people thinking? Are they flying the crabs in from Maryland one at a time in first-class airline seats?)

        2. It depends what you want in a restaurant. The Ivy attracts old school celebrities and others with a big wallet, but is neither cutting edge nor hip.

There are many more interesting restaurants in West Hollywood, and West Hollywood is not that big and is easily navigable. Also, restaurants in Beverly Hills, and on Third Street in LA and in the Fairfax District are all close by. Animal, Luques, Son of a Gun, and at least a couple dozen other well reviewed and discussed restaurants are within 2-5 miles of the Ivy.

exactly. the ivy is what it is. very solid food at exorbitant prices, but you also have a decent chance of sitting at the table that separates brad pitt's and rupert murdoch's parties (which happened the last time i was there). agree on the grilled vegetable salad. i get it with lemon shrimp, and it's actually very good. is it worth $28 or whatever ridiculous price? no, it's a frickin' salad. but hey, if you want a uniquely LA experience with paparazzi across the street, this is the place to go. [note: i've only gone on expense accounts. never paid myself]

            1. re: Bert

hah! I only went once, with an expense account, at the request of a fairly well-known (better respected than recognized) older actress who wanted to be seen there on someone else's dime.

          2. I like the patio at the Ivy. The chicken is very good, as are the pizzas and chopped salad. The Ivy gimlet is very good too. Its expensive. I like Il Picolino just north on Robertson on the east side better.

Go up Robertson past Melrose and there's Sur. It's a cool little place to chill out at.

Is the food better than Cafe Blanco. Same owner and not the best. Sur looks beautiful.

I think you're referring to Villa Blanca in Beverly Hills.

Place Link for Sur Restaurant & Grill and Villa Blanca attached:

You are correct. Not a big fan of Villa Blanca.
