Puzzling observation in H-Mart (Burlington MA) parking lot

greygarious Aug 17, 2011 10:49 AM

Leaving H-Mart early yesterday evening, I noticed a warped shopping cart fastened with a thick chain to the carriage corral toward the Cambridge St. end of the lot. In it was a bag of mushy bananas, a banana peel, and some orange peels. I wouldn't have taken notice had it just been a random cart loose in the lot, but the chain has me scratching my head. Do they put their over-ripe and otherwise unsellable food out there for the taking? It doesn't seem like an area where homeless people would be living.

By the way, I hadn't been there since spring and only needed a few things, but noticed as I walked by that the pineapples, which were $2 for gorgeous ones last time are now $4.99 for smaller, dry-looking ones. There were onions at $1.99/#. Northwest cherries were on special for $2.99, the same sale price other local chains are offering, but they were bruised and leaking. I was glad I only needed jarred and canned items. This store is definitely a place where you need to know your prices!

Yes their prices and quality are all over the place, like any other asian market. Go to HMart in Atlanta...WOW everything so fresh, clean, and cheap.
