College Park/Greenbelt

burkemic99 Aug 17, 2011 09:50 AM

I've given up hoping to get a response from Tom Sietsema, and I've tried asking for restaurant recommendations at least 3 times... sometimes I wonder if he ever eats in PG county.

Can anyone recommend some restaurants in the College Park, Greenbelt, Berwyn Heights area?

Search for College Park on this board and you'll find limited recommendations. I think there's a pho place in Beltsville, near the Costco that's supposed to be good. And several Indian or pupusa venues in Takoma Park/Langley Park get good reviews.

I have fond memories of Marathon Deli in College Park and Franklins is good for beer (avoid the food). But there's nothing fine-dining related, or even places I'd travel any distance for.

While odkaty's right, I'll attempt to answer your question: Woodlands (vegetarian Indian) in Langley Park, Jerry's Seafood (Seabrook and Bowie), La Sirenita (as close to real Mexican as you're gonna get) and Franklin's (food's just fine, IMO, tho the beer is better) in Hyattsville, Samantha's (Latin American) on 193, and the joints in "Little Mexico" along Kenilworth Avenue in Riverdale, to name a few. Some like Siri's Chef's Secret (Thai) on 193 in Greenbelt. Not my thing. Hope this helps.

      La Sirenita Restaurant
4911 Edmonston Rd, Hyattsville, MD 20781

      Jerry's Seafood Restaurant
15211 Major Lansdale Blvd, Bowie, MD 20716

Just Jerk on Route One - decent food
The Pho place across from Costco on Route 1 - decent food
Caribbean Delight II across from Costco - decent food
The Original Ledo's on Knox Road - decent food
Tuffins - Langley Park - I hear the Indian food here is really good

Tiffin is really good, though I prefer Woodlands.

Make that "Tiffin" — great food, though I prefer Woodlands which is just down the street.

I prefer Pho 88 (in the PetSmart shopping center) to the place near Costco. Sardi's (Beltsville) and Pollo Fiesta (Riverdale) are good rotisserie chicken places.

I often go to the original Three Brothers (Beltway Plaza, Greenbelt) for cheap pizza, subs and beer.

Marathon Deli is still great for gyros and souvlaki. They might be closed for the summer.

Just Jerk is in Lanham on Lanham/Severn Rd. Great Jerk. Unless there is one in College Park I'm not aware of. It's been so long since I've been down Rt 1

I can recommend The Calvert House although I must admit that I haven't eaten there in a long time. http://www.calverthouseinn.com/

Now, granted, I was a child, and I don't even know if it exists anymore, but I remember having good food at Sir Walter Raleigh. Remember, I was a child so I can't attest to what it may or may not be now, if it in fact exists.

It's been about four years since I've been there, and it wasn't worth going back to. I also loved it as a kid, especially the salad bar! I am curious about their half price burger night (I think Mondays.) I might go back one of these days to check that out.

It's a decent place for live music and a beer, but the food is pretty meh.

Just a note to say thanks to eveyone for sharing. I've since tried Siri's (pretty good) and hope to check out several of the other places mentioned.
