Peter Luger - how much is the burger at lunch?

Thinking of making the pilgrimage for their burger lunch deal, at last. Is it still only $8.95? We'll bring cash and I guess we should order the burger "medium", if we want it pink in the center.

Anything else we need to know?

Thanks, Sluggo. Are the fries those "steak-cut" / wider ones? They never seem to come out so tasty when they're served that way, imo. In that case, maybe we'll just order one serving, just to try them.

Dang. $1.50 for a 5-cent slice of cheese? Lame. Sneak in your own slice.

That aside, their bacon is great. Three bucks is a bit high, but I'd splurge on that part.

      2. Went for the burger with bacon this afternoon. Mr grazer had his burger with cheese and fries. We both enjoyed everything. The fries were actually pretty tasty. It's interesting how the seemingly raw onion doesn't overpower with onion flavor. Maybe they serve Vidalia onions? I think the onion slice and special Luger steak sauce help a lot to make it so good; it wouldn't be nearly as good without those additions.

Personally, I found "medium" a bit overcooked for my taste. I'll specify "medium-rare"next time. That said, Mr g found his medium just right. We polished off a slice of yummy cheesecake, served with "schlag", for dessert. All in all, a lovely lunchtime excursion, with pleasant and efficient service.

been meaning to try their burger, did you have a reservation or just do a walk in? Was there a wait?

No reservation. I think we arrived around 1:15 on a Wednesday (mid-late August, mind you). No wait, though most if not all the tables were full in the dining area to the right, from where you enter the restaurant. The room had definitely cleared out in large part after 2 p.m. or so.
