Groupon Now

Anyone found anything worthwhile on the Groupon App's Now! feature yet? Most of the places offering deals are fairly mediocre so it's not true Chowhound material, and the savings aren't great (around $5 - $10 in most cases) but when you're looking for something quick on the way home from work rather than a romantic, gustatory treat, it can do be useful.

For example, last night we happened to be in the neighborhood so stopped off at Berryhill Baja Grill, where Monday night is $1.99 fish taco night. Combine that with the $10 for $20 deal and... well, I
won't lie - it's one of those chains with laminated menus, harassed teen waitstaff and kid's meals that all come with ketchup, fries and jello that usually make me despair for humanity, but the combination of 99c fish tacos and not having to deal with the weekend's washing up made it bearable. And the fish tacos weren't as undistinguished as the Yelp ratings had led me to expect....

The best thing about Groupon Now! is that you don't have to buy the deal in advance - just as long as you do it before the bill comes. And if it expires you get refunded automatically. Right now there's a $10 for $20 deal at Jorges, $8 for $15 at Aster's, $4 for $7 at Short Bus Subs and about a dozen frozen yoghurt places - nothing to get too excited about but it can't be Uchiko every night....

Before you invest in too many "groupon"s, go to" Food Media and News" section of these
boards and read the posting " Is Groupon Headed for a Crash". I thought they were the be-all-end-all answer to those of us always searching for the ultimate "deal", but maybe we should
    be careful!!

i keep checking for more northernly places that i can take advantage of on a weeknight.
nothing interesting so far but i'm sure there will be better options when the program is more established.
