Should this be made with a sponge cake/basic yellow cake/chiffon cake/ladyfingers?

I want to make a dessert with cake layers/fresh bananas/and mascarpone whipped cream frosting/filling.

If you can envision this, what would you make it with? I want something that is very soft with a velvety and tender texture.

    Hot milk sponge. Nick Malgieri has a good one.

      I've never made a chiffon cake, but I imagine what you're talking about would work fine with any of the other three. I prefer cake to ladyfingers, but that's just me. "Velvety and tender texture" makes me think of gelatinized whipped cream, but I think using mascarpone will work, too.
