BEST OF EAST HARLEM
Native NYer moving to new neighborhood. Best eats, please, in the general vicinity of 118th and Pleasant. Yes, I love Patsy's. Waiting for the reopening of the Uptown Juice Bar to its new location. What else? Thank you!!

La Corsa Italian restaurant on E 110 St is fabulous. Creative entrees and excellent pizza. If the weather is nice sit outside on their patio. It's a nice family run operation.

There's some suggestions here, though possibly 10-15 blocks south of you:

uptown juice bar is open again, but it has a new name, which escapes me. something like uptown juice. it's a block east of its old location, on the same block as the wild olive market (which is a pretty good little grocery store).
i love moustache on lexington and 102. cafe ollin is frequently recommended and sounds great, but i have yet to make it over there. very sad to see that itzocan has closed. agree that taco mix is solid. on 118th and 5th is piatto d'oro which is a surprisingly decent homey little italian place (pizza not as good as pasta dishes).

I don't think Itzocan is closed. When I walked by this weekend they had an "Open" sign in their window and all the tables were set for service.

I think I read that here, but now can't remember. I definitely don't want to be spreading rumors, and I'll go in for the huitlacoche souffle ASAP if they're open. Their website is up, but I just tried calling the phone number listed on their website, and it's disconnected. Anyone else know?

According to menupages and nymag that location is closed.

Thank for all the suggestions. (Keep 'em coming.) Rose Water--Wild Olive Market is the new venture of two brothers who own the wonderful Mani Market on W. 94th Street, where I lived for many years. (Like Fairway, but small and homey, with personal service.) I want to give a shout out to them and recommend Wild Olive, too.

My go to place in this nabe is El Nuevo Caridad on 115 and 2nd. Real homestyle Dominican (I think) eats. I love the chicken stew and always have a steaming bowl of mondongo-especially good on cold days!! Staff is real nice and this is such an unpretentious place.

I'll have to try the chicken stew - but I've had horrid luck with food at El Nuevo Caridad - tough shriveled roast chicken, shoe leather pork...overcooked dried out rice...
(not the same 'hood, but there is a Dominican market on the corner of 116th & FDB, and in the back there is a hot food area with homestyle food which is different every day, and the woman cooking is very sweet and works her head off....)

El Nuevo Caridad (which I do not like) is on 116h & 2nd.
The Dominican grocery with the woman cooking homestyle food in the back is on 116th & FDB.

And that's Stephanie, right? http://www.chow.com/restaurants/46419...

I don't know the name. It's on the northeast corner.

Actually, following this conversation, I paid more attention getting off the subway there yesterday, and the yellow/green Stephanie sign (at the NE corner) is gone. Didn't pay enough attention to catch the new name of the place.

If you're game for West African, consider Treichville, 339 East 118th St.; terrific thiebou djeun. I'll also amplify the recommendations for Cafe Ollin; I really like their tortas.
