San Juan Islands next month

Here is my short list of restos to visit:
Coho - San Juan Island (SJI)
Duck Soup Inn - SJI
Backdoor Kitchen - SJI
Allium - Orcas Island
New Leaf Cafe - Orcas Island

I am vegetarian, my better half is not. Please comment on my selection and feel free to add others that I may not have come across. Plate presentation is important to me as are fresh, healthy ingredients.
There is a workshop at Allium the weekend that we are there and wondering if anyone knows the cooks (see below copied from their site)

When: September 17-18, 2011

Kate McDermott will be teaching us the Art of Pie on Saturday, September 17 at 9 am in the Allium kitchen.

Amy Pennington will be teaching us how to preserve some of the summer’s bounty on September 18 at 9 am in the Allium kitchen.

  1. Definitely switch Roses Bakery and Cafe (late brunch through early supper only) or Inn at Ship's Bay for New Leaf. I was there last spring and as hard they were trying, the food was, meh at New Leaf . You would do well having brunch at Doe Bay Cafe too. I thought it was a funny recommendation, but the food was great, if vegetarian. Check the hours - odd days.

    Kate is the queen of pie and Amy is an extraordinary urban gardener. You'll be well served to join either or both classes.

    1. Here's my review of Coho for earlier this year.

      1. That pie class is locally famous here in Seattle but she uses lard (and only lard you have to mail order from a guy in Pennsylvania!), so if you are veg, it probably won't work.

        I have a review of Allium here if you search.

        If you eat at Doe Bay, report back. It used to be a terrible hippie cafe, but I've heard that they now have a real chef and are doing interesting stuff. I believe it's vegetarian, or maybe veg and fish.
