Tell me about East York
I am temporarily moving in with a friend at Coxwell and Gerrard while i sort out some housing issues.
Obviously i am near little India as well as the burger's priest but otherwise know little about the area as you go further north or east.
i will search around the board but love to hear of suggestions say within a 15-20min drive
I am into any kind of food, any price range-mostly interested in ethnic eats, solid mom/pop places, good takeaway etc..

Grumbel's Deli, Main and Danforth. Great schnitzel and potato salad. Voulez Vous cafe at Ashdale and Queen. Great coffee and pastries. Walima Cafe (Moroccan) on Danforth makes a great Tajine (I like the lamb shank, Sultan's Style) Decent croissants and other pastries at Patisserie La Cigogne at Danforth and Monarch Park. Queen Margherita Pizza on Queen across from the streetcar barn (Greenwood)

If you head south on Coxwell and turn right at Eastern, just down a bit across from Macdonalds is Le Papillon on the Park. Really nice second-floor patio amid the treetops overlooking the park. Free parking in the park as well.

I jotted down a few notes on Le Papillion On the Park here:

It's not really East York though..-
re: Poorboy
lol, it's not East York and neither is Coxwell & Gerrard where the OP is based so I don't know why the question is about East York when they want to go anywhere wthin 15-20 minute drive. Le Pap on the Park is about a five minute drive from Coxwell & Gerrard and the patio is terrific. Some items are hit and miss but generally food and service good. Family friendly too.

Two places that are worth checking out. First, Bistro Camino by Canadian Tire at Main and Danforth and second is Melanies Bistro east of Woodbine on the north side of Danforth.

Well I was raised in EY and there are certainly some good options, most of which are probably on The Danforth. Its a great area for walking around, nice atmosphere, nice cafe's and bars with patio's, and some of the best Greek Food anywhere. Id recommend a few places based on my experience on the Danforth:
Athens Pastries: Great Tiropita/Spanakopita(cheese pita/spinach and cheese pita). and delicious Loukomades(Timbit sized fried balls of honey soaked goodness, delicious!)
Messini's: Best Authentic Gyro's in the city. Great takeout, order a Gyro to go, costs under $5, comes with real spit roasted Gyro meat(I think Chicken or Beef, maybe lamb?). the meat is tossed in a pita with lettuce, tomato, onions and tzatziki. Great lunch or late night eats, usually open til 3am or 4am on the weekends!
Ill leave other restaurants on the Danforth to others, but you basically have anything you could want up there, from fast food to more classy to whatever you might want.
Another thing Ill recommend is St Clair Ice Cream Factory. Its located just a little east of the Canadian Tire near Main St. This place is a definetely a gem in the summer, I believe they used to offer $1 a scoop for any flavor of ice cream, and they have like 30 flavors. Big servings for cheap prices and the ice cream is great!

Folia Grill on Pape is a small gem of a restaurant (if you could call it that). It's run by a husband and wife team, who are always there when I go. There are maybe 4 tables but you can take out. The pork souvlaki sticks are so good and the porkchop is a steal at $10!
