Any good sushi near Scottsdale?
Hi,
I'll be visiting Scottsdale with another family and was wondering whether there were any good sushi restaurants in the Scottsdale area?
Also, on an unrelated note, is the wait at Pizzaria Bianco that bad?
Thanks,
Brand

Good sushi in Scottsdale: Dozo, hiding in an old strip mall east of Downtown off Camelback.
GREAT sushi in Scottsdale: Shinbay. I went to its previous incarnation in Ahwatukee, and it was one of the most memorable meals of my life. If you go, get reservations a day or two in advance for the Chef's Course menu. It's quite expensive (I believe it starts at $75++, and goes up based on how much you want to pay for dinner), but very, very worth it.
The wait at PB: Usually my response to your question is "If you have to ask, it's not worth the wait". However, the way you worded your question has me thinking you're much like me; I wonder why people get their knickers in a bunch over having to wait 90 minutes for a table at one of the best pizza restaurants in the country. It's part of the fun for me. Head next door to Bar Bianco for a bottle of wine, enjoy getting to chat with your friends over said bottle in a blessedly TV-free environment, and the 90 minutes slips by faster than you'll know.

Definitely Hiro Sushi for sushi in Scottsdale. I love Cibo Pizzeria downtown. Much better than PB. Humble Pie is also good, but liked Cibo even more. Definitely have the burrata at either place. Enjoy!

Agree on the maestro's take on Bianco- just go and make an evening of it. The bar next door has great wines and the full list of appetizers- just think of it as having your appetizers in a different building (and maybe a half hour before) than your main course, and you'll be fine.
I'm not a huge Sushi Roku fan- the food is decent, but the price to taste ratio is a bit off. Never been to Roka Akor, but have heard great things. Stingray Sushi is a bit "chain-ish" down here, but I think provides a better value than Sushi Roku.

Roka Akor has always been hit or miss on their menu to me, some of their stuff is really good, some of it just ok - so for the price if you order correctly it is justified but if you get some of their average items you might feel a bit jaded, i guess you could say the same about sushi roku - it is also very expensive
pizza: i like LGO pizza for their sourdough crust and their wings are great, grilled spicy and meaty, the opposite of bw's3 :)

The initiation of lunch service at Pizzeria Bianco has reduced the dinner wait times a bit, which are typically shorter during the summer tourism doldrums. The main obstacle at this time of year has been the 4-week break they take starting around mid-August (i.e., now).

I've seen no official word on the timing of this year's Bianco break, so you might want to check on that before deciding.
For what it's worth, even though I think Humble Pie and a The Parlor make pretty good pizzas, I would give the nod to Pomo, if Pizzeria Bianco is closed.

PBianco is by far the best overall experience for upscale 'za in PHX. Yes there is the wait factor, but it is truly worth it. You just have to accept a (great) bit of patience. Whilst checking your watch post sign-in, have an appetizer and wine next door, go to the Science Museum next door, hang and let the anticipation build.
Keep in mind that most lists of the best Pizza in the U.S. will have loads of spots in SF, Chicago, New York, and then Pizzeria Bianco.
Bigger metros and foodie meccas have more options for meals that aren't just great but that give you an experience. Bazaar in L.A. is a prime example. In PHX the few that do this are Posh, Binkleys, and PB. If the later is open when you come, don't be warned off by the wait, go for it!

Hiro Sushi is the best sushi in N. Scottsdale. Roka Akor is excellent for sushi, robata grill, and a great upscale Japanese experience. It is pricy unless you go to the happy hour in the shochu lounge, which is super.
Forget about P. Bianco. Go to Humble Pie (in Scottsdale and N. Phoenix), the Parlor (Phx), or Pomo Pizzeria in Scottsdale, they are all better and not so overhyped with crazy waits.
