anniversary lunch-thursday-lower westchester-suggestions?

My husband and I are celebrating our 15th anniversary this week. He was recently switched to a 4--12 shift at work so we need to plan lunch not too far from where we live in mount vernon. I was thinking Kraft Bistro in Bronxville since I remembered it had such good ratings in the NYTimes but wanted to get other feedback and ideas. Thanks.

  1. X2O is always great for a special occasion... is that close enough? Open Table shows they have availability on Thursday for lunch. I actually prefer it during the day. It's bright and beautiful. Bonus-- at lunchtime they have a fixed price menu that is an excellent value.

Thanks for the suggestion. I know a lot of people like it but i was underwhelmed when we went for brunch on my bday a couple of years ago so am loath to go back.

        X20 by miles.
        Give it another go.

I do not like Sunday brunch at X2O at all. It is noisy, chaotic, and doesn't best represent the X2O experience in terms of food and service. Regular weekday lunch is completely different. I celebrated my marriage there with a small party at lunchtime a few months ago and it was beyond fabulous. The $25 3 course prix fixe is a steal.

is there a restaurant anywhere in the world where "brunch best represents" the food?
            Chefs universally revile brunch.

"Brunch" in these parts usually means carving stations and the ability to gorge oneself on limitless quantities of mediocre food.

If you mean "lunch", I disagree. I've had some terrific lunches, many smart chefs use it as a draw to get patrons to return for dinner. In Europe, where many chefs train, lunch is the main meal.

No, I didn't mean lunch, I mean "brunch".
THe previous poster said that he/she didn't like X20's brunch but did like their weekday LUNCH.

      2. My favorite in Bronxville is Underhill's Crossing. Physically beautiful inside, and very lovely food and service.

I miss the old Red Hat, that felt exactly like a French bistro! The new quarters is too slick, too full of pretension, and has food that misses the mark a lot of the time for out-of-sight prices. I am underwhelmed with the new Red Hat...

            2. My husband made reservations at Bistro Rollin in Pelham.
