Anniversary restaurant??

p

We will be traveling along the PA turnpike and staying overnight next Sunday just off of exit 48 near Oakmont. Since it will be our anniversary we would like to go out for a nice romantic dinner. Since we will be totally unfamiliar with the area I would like some recommendations on where to go. Seafood or Italian would be preferred, as well as a quiet, possibly romantic atmosphere. We will be just off the exit and would be willing to travel no more than twenty minutes to half an hour.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Although I have not yet been there, I've heard great things about Notion, in Oakmont. It's easy to find, right in the middle of town.

Well, lets try this again! Three that I like are The Mighty Oak Barrel, Hoffstot's, and The Chelsea Grill. All are right in town, and very good, but most likely not quite the quality of Notion. My favorite is the Mighty Oak Barrel. It's very small and quaint and they are known for some fun wine tastings.

As a side note, you may want to stop in the Oakmont Bakery while you're there...It's really spectacular!

i second Might Oak Barrel .... Oakmont Bakery is also very nice.. even if you just get some items for breakfast the next morning.

Might Oak Barrel is by far my fave in this area and fits your requirments perfectly. Burghfeeder turned me on to this place about a year ago ( when I started working in the area) and I try to go when ever I get a chance. Hoffstot's is not bad, just a little to old school for me (and not in a good way) . Chelsea Grill, good for lunch / dinner would skip for anniversery

Huh. Well, I'm not giving up!

There is a new restaurant just past Verona (right next to Oakmont) called Barcelona. I haven't been yet, but have heard some good things. It might be worth a try, and is still very easy to get to.

Thanks to Burghfeeder, Augie6 and Joeythec for their help in choosing a place for our anniversary dinner on the 21st. We ended up choosing Hoffstats and a great dinner. The only problem was the cramped tables. The reason for that was that we were seated in the front center of the restaurant and our party of five was not the only party larger than four. All four tables had to have their wings popped up for large party. But since our reservation was for seven the other tables were empty when we were eating our entree. It was not a rushed meal, and the food and wine were excellent. Two of our party had the mussel special which was absolutely delicious. Thanks again for helping out an out of towner.
