Remembering Silk Road Palace UWS

Is there any restaurant like SLP?
I miss small dumplings in a spicy peanuts sauce at SLP.
Good Chinese food, not expensive...and free wine!
UWS will be better.

  1. There is no good Chinese food on the UWS anymore. Gotta go to Chinatown or out to Queens now.

      OH MY GOD....
Where is the best Chinese you recommend in Chinatown and Queens?

      1. re: Thegreat

For good answers, I think you'll need to specify type and style of Chinese restaurant -

        1. re: yebo

I like szechuan, hot and spicy style.

Grand Sichuan has an outpost on74th and Amsterdam, not far from the old Silk Road Palace. The food is a lot truer to real ma la Sichuan cuisine than the classic NYC Chinese on offer at Silk Road.

Good location! I want to go there.
              What is your recommend menu?

              1. re: Thegreat

My usual orders at Grand Sichuan include cold tongue and tripe, dan dan noodles, Guizhou chicken, smoked duck, sour string beans and pea shoots.

                1. re: JungMann

Dan dan noodles...Japanese Say "Tan Tan Men."
I like it very much, but never had in NY.
I will try the next time.

                  Guizhou chicken...sorry,I don't know that.
                  Is it spicy?

                  1. re: Thegreat

Guizhou chicken has the typical ma la / spicy-numbing flavor of Sichuanese cuisine. It is spicy, but Grand Sichuan rarely overdoes it with the chilies.

Thank you very much. It seems very delicious.
                      Free wine? It's better!

                      1. re: Thegreat

No free wine. The only two places left for that are The Cottage and Pearls, neither of which have the same atmosphere as Silk Road Palace or are as good as Grand Sichuan.

                          Pearls...I have not hear it.
                          Is It szechuan resutaurant?
I put it in my list.

                          1. re: Thegreat

nobody goes to pearls for the food

                              1. re: Thegreat

HOW is Pearls? Does anyone have comments?

                2. re: Thegreat

The eel with garlic sauce is also good. The hot and sour soup isn't bad. I had one noodle soup dish that was good (NOT a Mandarin or Cantonese type thing, this was Sichuan) but I forget the name. The sichuan cabbage is a nice green appetizer

Thank you for your infomation! Chinese Eel is very strange for me.
Is Sichuan Cabbage hot and spicy?
Do you eat dumplings at there?
