For a real NY experience and great food I'd try Barney Greengrass on Amsterdam between 86th and 87th. Great smoked fish platters but they have other breakfast options.

And there's also the Popover Cafe right next door which is also very good for brunch.

Ouest has an excellent brunch. It's prix-fixe, more upscale than the other 2 suggestions.

Popover is unique and fabulous. We recently went to Gabriela's (Mexican) and the brunch was outstanding and reasonably priced.

In case the OP is searching for it, the correct spelling is Gabriela's. We too love the brunch there. I am particularly fond of the chilaquiles.
If you do go to Popover, be sure to have the strawberry butter.

Both Barney Greengrass and Ouest are great suggestions. It surprises me to hear Popover Cafe described as fabulous. I found it to be merely OK, and I have not heard particularly good things about Gabriela's. If you could stretch a little to the high 70s you'd have more options, including one of my favorites, Ocean Grill.
