Shiro -- French Japanese fusion -- sort of qualifies as "ethnic".

But then maybe the OP is French and is dining with a group of Japanese friends.

      1. I suppose Malbec is sort of ethnic - Argentinian - but it's as close to non-ethnic / ethnic as I think you can find and it is very good, reasonably priced, nice wines, good steaks / seafood, etc. and a very nice atmosphere.

I was there yesterday for lunch, by the way. Very nice place for lunch. I had a delicious arugula salad with grilled shrimp, avocado, blue cheese, some other stuff. My friend has a fish soup that was excellent. It was very reasonably priced, though at first the service was almost non-existent. I had to finally get up, find a waiter and tell him we wanted to order.

        1. Just two questions - what's "$$$" and what does "ethnic" mean to you? Most/all? restaurants here serve food of some ethnicity, or with strong ethnic influences, so does this rule out something like straight-ahead Italian (Briganti), or sort of "global gastropub" like Kings Row? Both are pretty excellent local choices.

And for cost/value, Raymond is pretty good, but it's probably one of the more expensive spots in town, sort of the $30-40 range for entrees as I recall, appetizers 10-20, add wine and you're north of $200 pretty quick.

Had good and reasonable American/bistro-type dinners lately at Parkway Grill (yeah, still pretty good), Green St. Tavern, Kings Row.

          1. Agree with ipsedixit. How about Smitty's?
