More Sarasota restaurants

I think the following two Sarasota restaurants deserve a mention.

MOREL'S. Located in a strip center on Tuttle at Bee Ridge. This restaurant is continental, cooking is very french. Sole Amandine topped with either shrimp or scallops is delicious. Escargot are good, soups are delicious, and they have a very good creme brulee.

MIGUEL's on Midnight Pass Rd. on Siesta Key. This is a restaurant that appeals to the more senior Chowhounders. It is family owned, one brother in the kitchen and the other out front. Cooking style is french, the menu is varied. The Early Bird Special consists of four courses and is one of the best values in town. It has a loyal local following so reservations are a good idea.

  1. I know you posted this ages ago but I just joined here recently. I know Morel's has been in the Tuttle-Ridge area for years but have heard very little about it. Do tell me more. Love french food but a price point and a better idea of the menu offerings would be a big help. Had a birthday this week and want a "date night" place to celebrate. Thanks. Hope this finds you happy, healthy and full.

      Hello Suzigirl

Morel's menu can be found at As you can tell from the photograph, the interior has a bistro look and feel. I would not consider it a celebratory destination however. It is lacking in visual pizazz but the food is excellent.

One happy, healthy and at this point hungry person.

Just checked out the site and they don't have the escargot anymore as far as the website shows. That was a big draw for me. Love those little garlicky gems. I miss the ones at Bob's Boathouse way back in the late 90's. If you know of another place with french food and/ or escargot let me know. I'm thankful for the info that it is good but not occasion worthy. Will go there on a more casual occasion.

Just looked around on the net and saw fantastic reviews. Do I need reservations? I'm sure this time of year it will be in my best interest. Thanks for the tip. Looking forward to checking it out. Can you give me a price point as I couldn't find a website.

I believe Bob's Boathouse is coming back into the restaurant business on the south trail down by Phillipi Park. The sign says "hiring", so it will be opening soon.

I do hope they keep some of the original menu. They had a great vibe. I went there quite often. If they bring back the sizzling lava rock dinner I hope they make it larger. I'm a bit jazzed to see it again.

Sorry, I meant to include the website.

It's inexpensive, you can see from the menu.

I was there during the week last week and it wasn't full. Probably would be on weekends. The have free parking just west of their entrance in the gap between two buildings.

The menu looks nice. Thank you for the website link. I Googled it and came up empty. Still finding my way around this new tablet. :-)

Trust me, that did not get passed me. Yum yum. I am a brave eater and like some of the more adventurous eats. Glad you replied.

Just checked out the website. Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner. They have frogs legs too. The only other place they have those that I have been is Crab Trap and they are fried and they aren't good. They were a destinationspot back in the day. Now they are tired and dated last time I was there. Been some time though. Thanks alot Deluca.

My mouth is watering for the little hoppers. Nice to see something other than fried. Not that I mind. I am a southern girl and have a love affair with my deep fryer.
