Wine pricing in a vineyard restaurant

We dined at a resturant in a vineyard last night. Before eating we did a wine tasting and between the 2 us purchased a case of varied wines they offer. We then went into the dining room and noticed the bottles were considerably higher in price. Why do they offer the wines at average prices downstairs in the tasting room but mark them up in the restaurant? Thanks!

Think of the vineyard with a restaurant.. Thus the notion of corkage, service, opening, pouring, glasses, cleaning, and so on. Never seen it any other way. Some liquor stores/restaurants let you buy their wine retail and add a corkage charge on, why not ?

Use to live near a major vineyard in Michigan. We would do an annual tasting, buy a bottle or two, have lunch, and then stop at the grocery store and buy it for up to one third the price at the vineyard. Same vintage. Just the opposite in Germany.

Probably different laws and bylaws concerning taxes on direct sell of alcohol to the consumer (you) or via a restaurant.
