restaurants w/ sleek modern minimal decor? 2011 edition

thursdaynext Aug 12, 2011 07:10 PM

I origianally posted this question 4 years ago, but it's my mom's birthday once again, and I need to find a new aestheically pleasing restaurant:

It's my mom's birthday next week & I want to take her out for a birthday dinner. I would love some suggestions. She's a big fan of restaurants that have a sleek modern design (minimal and/or industrial a plus!). I want to say "style over substance" but it would help if the food was good too! Any cuisine will do except Indian,Thai or Japanese. She's a hip lady, but it doesn't have to be too "sceney" either. I'm also willing to splurge a bit.

FYI She's already been to the Modern at MoMa, Perry St, Public, The Wright, Morimoto, Delicatessen

Thanks for your help!

Would she be into something like WD-50?

Is Wylie Dufrense's food still cool?

On a recent Sunday, the restaurant was fully booked.

If your mom hasn't been to Aldea, the space was previously used for industrial purposes, and the decor is sleek modern.

A major plus: Chef George Mendes' Portuguese-inspired New American cuisine is superb.

Corton is very sleek. All white and minimalist. Food is stylish and tasty too.
