Meeting for family occasion at rush hour, coming from North, South and West and one from Copley visiting and wanting N.E. seafood. Prefer to not go into city with rush hour, parking etc. Thought maybe central meeting spot that the boston person could take T, rail or shared limo too. Wish I could stick Rockport inside the Newton Marriott! thanks

Is Village Fish still open? They were great in Brookline, but haven't heard much about them since the move to Needham a few years ago. They don't seem to have a website anymore.

Never liked Legal Seafood. Great fish at Skipjacks and also at the Dolphin in Natick (twin lobster special). Capt Marden's is a fish supplier and their restaurant is right next to their fishmarket. Can't get any fresher than that. Clams are great there. We eat there once a week. The Verona in Watertown also has great fish (actually, everything is great) and they have a special ($30 for any two dinners two dinner entrees on the menu and it includes salad and dessert). If you go make sure you tell them you want the special. the specials are the same saiz as a non-special.

          Thanks.

I forgot about Dolphin. The one in Cambridge used to be very good, and is a quick T ride from copley.

You might also look into 51 Lincoln. Not a seafood restaurant, but they usually have several seafood options, and it's worth the D line ride to Newton IMO.

Good ideas, 'll look into some of these..Boy Verons is a blast from the past. is that the one that is closed? Still wish there was something more central to 128 since we are driving during rush hour from all 4 directions on Pike and 128... Just saw that Naked Fish is still in Waltham.and that is very easy and central off 128,but is it any good? havent been for years, or to that one at all.. Has anyone tried the 13.95 twin lobster special at Bacci in Stoneham? They have a little private room, although not central location.. My mom is actually at Dolphin right now. Zaleks said he could make us a special clambake, but will be hard to get them to come up that far..Is the Primesteak in Wayland any good?? Its the same owners as Grassfields and Jimmys Steerhouse with a more upscale price and menu but lots of crossover. I actually like the seafood at the Jimmys in Saugus but maybe Grassfields in Waltham isnt as good by the sound of above revew..

I have not had the twin lobsters at Bacci's, but friends have and have been happy with it. I don't know of a private room there, but they sometimes put large parties in the back of the restaurant. They also usually have seafood specials on the menu and the fish is fresh.

ok, update.. So now the concensus is not Zalek, Bacci or Primesteak because all too far during rush hour..And need for seafood has deminished, So, narrowing it down to as close as possible to 128 Wellesly to waltham. eg Naked Fish unless something with better food and less expensive can be found..Or, I guess Mardens is still a choice although its probably a pain to drive there at rush hour..

Err.....I wouldn't make Naked Fish a first choice. If you're shooting for Waltham, how about Il Capriccio, or Elephant Walk?

i had just thought about elephant walk..havent been in years.. Will suggest it. Is Il Cappricio really pricey? Is Bison grill still any good? Cant remember if its too much of a bar feel tho..How is John Brewers? Is it far from the highway? Is Skellig a bar or any good? (obviously i just searched a list of waltham restaurants...)

Il Capriccio is well above the price point of the other restaurants that have been discussed. John Brewer's is OK pub food but it is definitely not close to 95 -- it's on the Watertown line. The Skellig is definitely a bar. They have food, which is...OK. Haven't been to Bison County.

I'm not a huge Naked Fish fan, but if you want to stay close to 95 there's aren't a whole lot of better options. There's a Bertucci's at the same exit and a few hotel restaurants that have never appealed. In Waltham, anything else is going to be a little bit of a drive down Rte 20, but if you are OK with that your options are better.

Thank you so much everyone! Well, the vote went to Naked Fish and I was actually very pleasantly surprised! although obviously not a 'chowish'place it turned out great and everyone was very happy. They have a much nicer look than other Naked Fish i have seen. Festive with hanging lit up stars and we had a private room in the back with a nice window and they set up tables in a square so we could see each other. The waitress was superb. The dishes were better than expected. Breaded Swordfish with kalamaata olives, tomato and thin sliced red onion with balsamic was a hit with three people, tilapia in parmesan crust with a lemon butter sauce over spinach was very mild and fresh and flavorable. People also enjoyed their gigantic shrimp moho, lobster sauteed in ginger and scallion and scallops risotto. Side dishes have nice variety, like plantains, rice and beans, kale, well prepared asparagus. They brought the wrong lobster dish and replaced it quickly and took the apps off the bill to make up for the error(noone had complained or asked them to do it). They also heard us talking that it was my parents anniv and offered them complimentary dessert. Noone got stuck in too much traffic and parking was easy, so all in all i recommend it for a centrally located fix for a big gatherings, especially in the private room.. thanks again!

Skipjack's on Needham Street is reliable, if unexciting, and a doable walk from the Newton Highlands T stop.

thanks all! Well, dont need he public transport now.. got the Boston person a ride. My sisters suggested Captain Mardens, Skipjack, Cheesecake Fact, Mandarin Chinese in Needham. I say poo to cheesecake. What about Mardens? Skipjack haas a nice early bird menu but looks pricey for what it is at the time we would go..Cant bellieve the lack of seafood in the area! I would prefer Lexington or Waltham .. Anything there?
Actually I just realized that Grassfields might be good. I go to the one in Danvers and its probably as good as Mardens or skipjacks . Hows the waltham one?

Anyone who would suggest Cheesecake Factory in a discussion of fresh seafood should be made fun of. I'm glad you discounted it.

Marden's is excellent. No atmosphere, but great fish at good prices. I'd call ahead for a party of that size, and it's not a lingering place.

I'd also go with Legal's or Skipjacks over Grassfields. It's not in the same league for fresh fish as Legal's or Skipjack's or Marden's.

Captain Marden's is good, but quite basic and very small. Not sure they could easily accomodate a 10 person party. Really no other choices other than seafood there, too. How about Stellina in Watertown? Close to Newton Corner, nice seafood options, well liked on the boards.

If it helps, it doesnt have to be a seafood place, just a place with good food and a few fresh seafood choices.. for example, if I want to be assured of excellent fresh N.E. fish, I go to Zaleks in Wakefield, but for this I need a bit more towrard the Pike and T, and a little bit less casual than Zaleks which is counter service..

The only suburban seafood place that I can think of isn't near Newton/Lex and that is Legal Seafood at the Burlington Mall. Not what I would call a great New England Seafood Experience but it's predictable and would have a large menu from which to please everybody.

Also, around Copley you can check out this link: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/771226

cambridge, belmont, and artlington have a number of choices though none of them would be primarily NE seafood.

There are remarkably few good NE seafood restaurants given our proximity to the sea period.

wow, there is no decent seafood for a family gathering around the 128 Newton area?? Dont really want Newton Marriott to be the only central gathering place around! There must be someplace... help! I guess if we have to go into Copley, I will take some suggestions there...
