Local Farms?

lestblight Aug 12, 2011 02:00 PM

i need to buy a small amounts of herbs, veggies, corn etc .. on a consistent basis.

Looking for local or not too far from brooklyn/queens farms so i can buy bulk.

I am avoiding the farmers markets in bk.. they are too expensive.

Anyone know of a few i can look up?

Thanks

    Have you tried the Brooklyn Grange (LIC/Queens despite the name)? I believe they sell at smorgasborg and at their own farm. I haven't bought from them, so I can't speak for it directly but I do have friends who have bough veggies and herbs from them.

      And at Roberta's, but only on the next two Sundays.

      Give Added Value a call. www.added-value.org Perhaps they can meet your needs. And you can't get more local than Red Hook.

        The stand of the Queens County Farm Museum on Little Neck Parkway might fit the bill. I often buy their produce at the Union Square market and have always been pleased.

          The Queens farm has great produce, eggs, etc. with three caveats:

          #1 Their items are not cheap;

          #2 Some of the items they sell come from the Rothkamp farm, I believe, in Brookville and are NOT organic and are grown by conventional means.

          #3 Their eggs sell out really quick

          I have not been to the farm this year but this was true as of last year.
