Local Farms?

  • 5

i need to buy a small amounts of herbs, veggies, corn etc .. on a consistent basis.

Looking for local or not too far from brooklyn/queens farms so i can buy bulk.

I am avoiding the farmers markets in bk.. they are too expensive.

Anyone know of a few i can look up?

Thanks

  1. The stand of the Queens County Farm Museum on Little Neck Parkway might fit the bill. I often buy their produce at the Union Square market and have always been pleased.

      The Queens farm has great produce, eggs, etc. with three caveats:

      #1 Their items are not cheap;

      #2 Some of the items they sell come from the Rothkamp farm, I believe, in Brookville and are NOT organic and are grown by conventional means.

      #3 Their eggs sell out really quick

      I have not been to the farm this year but this was true as of last year.

    2. Give Added Value a call. www.added-value.org Perhaps they can meet your needs. And you can't get more local than Red Hook.

      1. Have you tried the Brooklyn Grange (LIC/Queens despite the name)? I believe they sell at smorgasborg and at their own farm. I haven't bought from them, so I can't speak for it directly but I do have friends who have bough veggies and herbs from them.

          And at Roberta's, but only on the next two Sundays.
