dashi ingredients in cobble hill metro area?
Epicurious tells me "kombu" and "katsuo bushi" are what I need for dashi (along with wakame for the miso soup) - any suggestion to find these in the Cobble-Carroll-Boerum corridor, any suggestions?
(I can't bring myself to say Bococa, mixed capitalization or otherwise :D)

Union Market also has bonito, although the package isn't really enough to make a decent amount of dashi - you probably need to buy two of the packages. It is more expensive than bonito I have seen elsewhere, but it is Eden Organics - they tend to use very high quality ingredients imported from Japan. I think they source most of their Japanese products from Mitoku.

Perelandra carries kelp-kombu and other seaweeds. I can't recall if they have katsuo bushi but if they do it should be in the same area. The korean green grocer on Atlantic near the Key Food will sometimes have it. Its usually bundled in little cello packages. If you strike out they do carry the instant hon dashi. Maybe an abomination to some but is convenient for making miso soup.

Most health food stores will carry the ingredients you need. I know I've seen kombu and bonito shavings at Park Natural on Court St (right off of Union). The Korean-owned fish market on Court (next to Espositos) may also carry what you need. I wouldn't be surprised if Fish Tales was another source.
