Good meat and potatoes in Anaheim?

Although I love him dearly, my husband is a completely non-adventurous eater. We're going to be in Anaheim on his birthday and I'd like to find a place where the food is good but not ethnic (nope, not even Mexican or Asian). A steakhouse that's not too ridiculously priced would be good, or an "American" restaurant, no national chains but regional is okay if the food is decent. We're staying across from the Angels' stadium and will have a car. I've already ruled out the Catch and Steakhouse 55 as both are kind of pricey and seem to have mediocre food. Thanks!

  1. If you are willing to drive a bit, La Cave is a very old school steak house in Costa Mesa that has fantastic early bird specials. It is down a flight of stairs from ground level, into a small room with red leatherette booths. They bring the cuts around on an old school cart and the meal is definitely meat and potatoes. It isn't cheap on the regular menu (but not over the top either), but the early bird deals are very good, and they even have cheap corkage. If you go that route, stop in Hi-Time Liquor up the street for one of the best wine cellars in OC.

A little closer to you in Orange in Haven Gastro Pub, which has a flank steak for Hubby and a much wider array of options for you. It is a pretty busy spot, with a lot of crafted beers and full bar. The Orange Circle area is also nice for walking around either before dinner if you need to wait or afterward.

    1. Maybe look into Stubrik's in Fullerton. It's a short drive from Anaheim, but the parameters you're asking for within Anaheim are tough to meet.

      1. Mr. Stox might be a good option.

I like Mr Stox, traditional but always satisfies.

        2. Might be a bit too ethnic for you, but Jaegerhaus and The Phoenix club, both specializing in German food, are kind of a mecca in the area for meat and potatoes. The Lorelai at the Phoenix Club also specialized in traditional steak and potato dinners as well. Both are very reasonably priced.
