Looking for fresh sardines

I have a sicilian dish I want to make and the recipe calls for fresh sardine filets. Any suggestions as to where I can purchase this in New Orleans, Uptown preferably but don't mind driving.

  1. I'll second the request to bump this up. Anyone have a source?

    1. I too would love to know a local source. Last year I got some through a friend who got them through a vendor. Too convoluted and not always repeatable.

Fresh whole grilled (quality) sardines are great.

      1. I don't know if you'd have any luck, but maybe you could call Josh @ A Mano or John Harris @ Lilette and ask them their sources. Both have sardines as specials often.

that is a good idea thank you! I am going out of town next week but will try this and also the restaurant depot suggestion that Hungry Celeste suggested. Again, thank you for the tips.

        2. Try Restaurant Depot....you need a membership to get in, but they'll give you a membership if you have a business license or a nonprofit affiliiation.

          1. I have not ordered from them, but Pescatore and Wild Edibles at Grand Central Station in NYC (both googleable) have them, just not every day -- and, of course, they ship. I have searched over and over for a local source only to come up empty. The good/bad news is that our fishmongers are primarily selling local seafood.
