Mezes or other small plates
A friend is visiting and has requested mezes one night. Is there anywhere worth a visit on the Danforth? Any other suggestions for small plate type places? My friend doesn't eat a lot of meat, so less charcuterie, more dips and veggies. Thanks in advance.
I've always enjoyed Torito in Kensington for tapas style plates. The food is very good and it's a nice atmosphere plus the market is an interesting place for a visitor.

Look at that .I just posted Aladdin's Palace , and the post included the veg combo plate. May be a bit far though , and you don't go there to be scene. But very good and cheap. Work it in with a trip to Pacific Mall at Kennedy and Steeles?
Lebanese style, which this place is, specializes in "mezzes" . In the Middle East in a restaurant in this style a meal starts with approx 15 little plates of "salads" showing up, unasked for. Here you have a "combo" plate.

I've been happy with the mezes I've ordered at Pan (currently serving mostly Greek comfort food & classics, rather than the innovative Greek food that Pan served in the 90s) on my last couple visits. I like their zucchini fritters.
Have also ordered decent mezes at Megas (had the fried calamari, village salad, kopanisti last weekend, had maroulosalata, pork souvlaki stick, avgolemono soup in late March) and Avli (ordered the ouzo fennel shrimp, imam bayaldi in March http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/767575#6417482 ) recently.
Sadly, my last 3 visits to Mezes (in 2009 and 2010) were fairly mediocre, so I haven't been dining there lately. It's quite possible things have improved over the last year. Mezes has the largest selection of Mezes, but I've usually liked the mezes at Pan and Megas better in the last 3 years.
Palace might be another place to consider. It's the one Greek restaurant on the Danforth I haven't tried yet, but I've heard good things about the food.
Might also want to consider the Cuban tapas offered at Mambo. I haven't been for 2 years , so I don't know what the food has been like lately, but I thought the tapas were decent last time I went. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/5339...
Off the Danforth, if your friend likes seafood, you might want to order some mezes at Malena.

I know! There is a restuarant at St Clair and Dufferin that does nothing but mezzes, adn most are veg. It is on south side, near Dufferin. Forgot the name , but from memory of past trips, it is quite good and reasonably priced. Its been a while though. Help?
They have (had) specials on different days. call and find out.

Mezzetta, on St. Clair near Christie.
Was Mezzetta sold? The people that owned Mezzetta now own Nona, and I'm not sure if they currently own both Mezzetta and Nona. Also not sure if the food at Mezzetta would have changed, if the restaurant was sold. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/785764#6568070
Mezzetta currently offers a Monday night mezze special, with every other mezze costing $1.42 ($1.42 according to the main webpage, $1.22 according to the events page). Might call to see if they are still offering the Toonie Tuesday mentioned on the website, with every mezze costing $2.22. Some restrictions apply, appears to be a limit of 15 mezzes per party.
