bachelor party

Hi There! I'm coming with 4 additional guys from New York to Vancouver (all for the first time) for 4 days for a bachelor party. All of us are New Yorkers in our early 30's and prtetty houndish -- the bachelor in particular will describe his bachelor party experience in terms of the meals he had.

...So I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have for either of the following (I'd say type of cuisine is less important that vibe & quality):

1) a bachelor party restaurant: the sort of restaurant that feels festive, special and laid back enough to support a bunch of guys kicking off a night in a neighborhood that also has some fun bars to explore... a place that appeals to a bunch of dudes in some way, without being cheesy about it. i was given blue water cafe in yaletown as a suggestion

2) any place where the food experience itself is uniquely vancouver that we can do during the day?

Thank you guys!

Sounds like you guys are unanimous around Gastown... laid back vs. ultratrendy is what we're looking for. will let you guys know how it all goes!

          Good luck!

Yaletown is definitely style over substance and is sort of a trophy wife playground these days. There are some great places there, but the vibe is very much superficial and meat markety.

Gastown verges on the seedy but has quickly gentrified into a neighbourhood of art school nerds, fashionistas, and foodies who enjoy a good pre-Prohibition cocktail.

Call or email ahead, but Revel Room's food is pretty good and the drinks are fantastic. They're great about dealing with groups and events as well.

While I do love Blue Water, I don't think it is great for a bachelor party. I'd go to Chambar. The food doesn't quite match up to Blue Water, but the room is loud and fun with a younger crowd than you will find at Blue Water. Make sure you get a res.

If you are looking for ultra-trendy places to drink (not my thing!) then Yaletown is your spot.

You could also consider L'Abbatoir which is in Gastown. There are lots of great places to drink nearby (Pourhouse, Diamond). Gastown is more laid back than Yaletown. It just depends what kind of thing you guys are into.

Don't forget to end the night at Brandi's!!!

Boneta, also in Gastown, would be a good bet as well. A bit more loose than L'Abbatoir.
